On the 22nd march Real Friends brought their UK tour to a close with a sold out show at the at the London Underworld in Camden. This venue did not have a barrier which made it more of an intimate gig for the fans as it allowed them to stage dive and crowd surf.
Lets start with the support bands, first up there was the Brighton pop punk band Six Time Champion, I had heard a few of their songs prior and they sounded promising. I have to say they did blow me away how much of a good show put on, the whole crowd was singing every lyric back at them from the first song. They then slowed the pace down with an acoustic version of their song Old Friends, Loose Ends, this defiantly showed how talented they are as musicians.
I would recommend popping along to one to these guys gigs if you have the chance you won't be disappointed or take listen to their new EP 'expecting honesty'
DEFIENTLY A POP PUNK BAND TO WATCH
Next up was Brawlers, they surly were successful at getting the crowd going with their energetic performance. Their song 'Don't drink and dial' was full of bouncy and fun lyrics which got the crowd bouncing off of each other, got me ready for a good night.
The final support band was Trash Boat, these have to be the best new pop punk bands around which is shown as they have been voted to play the 'fresh blood' stage at slamdunk festival. By the second song in their set Tobi had stage dived and cut this lip open which caused his tee to get covered in blood yet they still carried on, good job guys! They were full of energy the whole set with many fans climbing up onto the stage to stage dive off even a few mosh pits got started. defiantly go and give this band a watch if you have the chance!
Real Friends
I had bee dying to see this band play live for a long time after catching them play 'I've given up on you' at the UK warped tour in 2012. Their set list was a mix of songs from their newest album 'maybe this place is the same and we're just changing' as well as songs from their first EP's. This was a good set up for a cracker of a gig, the no barrier meant fans were able to get onto the stage and sing into the mic with Dan and then jump off back into the crowd. The part of the set that mesmerised me was their acoustic of 'sixteen', during this everyone had put their phones away and was totally focused on the stage. Almost every fan was singing the lyrics back which created such an amazing atmosphere that made you feel connected with the band. At the end of their set they played their song 'Alexander Supertramp' this caused the biggest circle pit of the gig, 300 out of the 500 capacity must of been running in a circle the size of the whole floor, super rad!
If you have never heard of Real Friends before give them a listen, they're some of the best of American pop punk
